Senate Defence Committee members visit Maritime border crossings and points of entry July 22-24, 2009
Senator Colin Kenny, chair of the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence, and Senators Joseph Day, Michael Meighen, and Wilfred Moore will be visiting Maritime border crossings and points of entry from July 22-24, 2009, including Halifax International Airport, the Port of Halifax, the Port of Saint John, and the new St. Stephen, NB land border crossing to be opened in late fall 2009.
Their itinerary will include:
- Halifax International Airport: walk-a-bout of passenger processing facilities/baggage-handling areas; discussions with CBSA enforcement/intelligence officials and with RCMP officials
- Port of Halifax: briefing on port of entry operations and tour; briefing on National Port Enforcement Team operations and intelligence
- Port of Saint John: briefing on port of entry operations and tour
- St. Stephen land border crossing: tour of passenger and commercial processing facilities and briefing on CBSA Intelligence, NEXUS, FAST, Partners in Protection; briefing on the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET)

Halterm Container Terminal parking lot, 577 Marginal Road, Halifax.
CBSA officials will brief and answer questions from Senators Kenny and Moore on CBSA equipment such as the COMET and Radiation Portals and a variety of technology to help prevent contraband and dangerous goods from entering Canada. Equipment will be demonstrated for the media.

CBSA officers will brief and answer questions from Senators on port operations and the use of detection equipment as well as demonstrate the Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).
